  • falling star is a folk name for a meteor. It appears in the song Catch a Falling Star by Paul Vance that was recorded and popularized by Perry Como.

"Catch a falling star an’ put it in your pocket,

    Never let it fade away!

Catch a falling star an’ put it in your pocket,

Save it for a rainy day!

For love may come an' tap you on the shoulder,

    Some star-less night!

Just in case you feel you wanna’ hold her,

You’ll have a pocketful of starlight!

    "

  • I just got this joke in an e-mail:

King Ozymandias of Assyria was running low on cash after years of

war with the Hittites. His last great possession was the Star of the

Euphrates, the most valuable diamond in the ancient world. Desperate, he

went to Croesus, the pawnbroker, to ask for a loan.

Croesus said, "I'll give you 100,000 dinars for it."

"But I paid a million dinars for it," the King protested. " Don 't you

know who I am? I am the king!"

Croesus replied, "When you wish to pawn a Star, makes no difference who you are."
